Ready-to-press DTF is a practical fit for detailed, full-color artwork, dark or light garments, short-to-medium runs, personalization, and businesses that need to move between cotton, polyester, and common blends. A heat press with even pressure is essential. Fabric coatings, dyes, heat sensitivity, and garment construction can affect the result, so test unfamiliar blanks and follow the instructions supplied with the order.

DTG can remove screens from the workflow, but it replaces them with equipment, pretreatment, humidity, maintenance, and curing requirements. Shops should compare the true labor and ownership cost—not just print speed—against outsourcing or transfer-based production.

4. Heat-transfer vinyl (HTV)

HTV is cut from colored or printable material, weeded, positioned, and heat-applied. It remains a dependable choice for player names, numbers, simple logos, and low-color personalization. It can also be useful when a specialty vinyl finish is central to the design.

The limiting factor is hands-on labor. Fine detail, many small pieces, and layered colors increase cutting, weeding, alignment, and pressing time. For complex full-color art, a digitally produced transfer may be more efficient.

5. Dye sublimation

Sublimation uses heat to turn dye into a gas that bonds with compatible material. On white or light polyester, the design becomes part of the fabric rather than a separate layer on top. This makes sublimation popular for performance apparel, jerseys, and polyester products that benefit from vivid, edge-free decoration.

Standard sublimation is not the usual answer for dark garments or ordinary cotton. The substrate needs enough compatible polyester or a sublimation-ready coating, and the garment color affects the visible result.

6. Plastisol transfers

Plastisol transfers are screen-printed ink deposits made on release paper and heat-applied later. They let a business stock repeated designs in transfer form and decorate garments closer to the point of sale. This can reduce finished-goods inventory while retaining a screen-printed ink system.

8. Discharge printing
